Here's the scoop. My teen daughter has 99% black or mixed friends. She is white. Certain people in my life verbally voice their opinions to me that my daughter talks, dresses, does her hair, eats, whatever, you name it, like the African American culture. I am aware of this as a fact. But,I do not see anything wrong with it, I have always told my kids to be who they are and who they want to be. I have always taught them to accept all cultures and nationalities. Do you see anything wrong with all of this

What is acting outside your race?
They are only picking up habits from their friends ways
And another thing, you need new friends if they are going to voice their opinions about how you raise your own daughter,
I'm glad to see young people who don't see color, and I give you a star for that for raising your child to respect other races

It's right to teach your kids to accept all races and cultures but I would be questioning why they wanted to adopt one that was not their own. In saying "like the African American culture" I am assuming you believe there to be one, As a Brit I cannot comment on that, but many young black people in my country seem to be copying what the black kids in America do. Has it anything to do with the music and the people who perform the songs, their lifestyles and the images they project? Here too, some white kids are adopting the style and language of their black contempories. It must be a cool thing to do as kids today want to be "cool" more than anything. It is amazing that just 40yrs or so ago the black people in America were fighting for their rights and now some white Americans want to be just like them. How the world turns, and for the better in this case. I have only one caution here, is your daughter behaving in this way purely to "fit in"? Or failing that has she lost pride in her own "culture? If we accept that there is such a thing as a culture then we have to accept there are many of them. .

Accepting and just being what everyone else is because they are "cool" are two different things. Alot of girls today have taken liking to African American culture and hip-hop culture, it's in. Nothing wrong with that, but it's a trend. I personally have go threw the stage of being into hip-hop then deciding it's not who I am, I am Irish and German and I want to celebrate that culture of my parents and grandparents etc...

No,like you said in your question "your kids are who they are".People can't change that.In my opinion, there is no such thing as acting out of their own race. This is because we are different individuals with different interests.
Anyway, your daughter is fine.As long as if she's happy, then that is all what really matters.

Nope. She is who she is, it's nothing wrong with it. She just proves that a culture is not defined by a race. Culture is open to anyone who accepts it.

She is not "acting" out of her race. She is merely speaking the way her friends speak; this doesn't mean that she isn't white.
Race doesn't dictate the way one talks. Know that.

As long as she is truly being "herself" and not trying to just "fit in" with her friends.
My Best friend is black. We have be friends for over ten years. I've always been "me" and she always been "her"
