We may lend our hearts to the past because it is known to us ... and because there may be something lacking in our present lives. Then, out of nowhere, something comes along that rescues our heart from that past ... and gives it new life.
As for growing up too fast ... i wouldn't know.

I wish I knew where you got this question from...for it sounds so familiar..and it is aggravating me. I guess I will just answer for answer sake.
A part of our heart is always left in the past, with those we have loved and cherish...We all seem to grow up too fast during our early twenties - I would not go back to that realization period for the all kimonos in China.

My heart has been living in the past for over two years. I am lost without her and having a hard time moving on.
It's very difficult to close the chapter that lasted 29 years and start a new one in absence of the one you loved.

Because sometimes the present isn't good, and the future is unknown..So we like to leave out hearts in expeiences we've had that are better and situations we know to keep it safe or for simple nostalgia....
As far as the growing up so fast..I don't know, but it isn't all it's cracked up to be at times is it? :-(

To answer both questions together society forces us to. Through ridicule(telling us that life is hard, don't be such a baby) and and instilling doubt(either grow-up or you'll never have/be anything).

wallow in what was rather than leap into what could be...probably fear...we have to grow up quickly in order to overcome our fears.
