It depends entirely on what you want your future to be like.

Let's say that earning a lot of money is good for your future. Then, some would suggest that you learn a lot and work hard, and later in your life, you might earn a lot of it.

Many did it but end up earning an average amount (still more than many others, though). Some people did not do much. They might have had luck, or they just did something what nobody could suggest them, which is still something solid. So, they did what they wanted to do (although maybe mommy and daddy and friends said that they shouldn't) and they ended up living happily ever after.

My point is: you cannot foresee the future. So, do your thing.

go to college, set aside so much of your money in each paycheck for retirement and savings. If you set aside like$50 from every paycheck (assuming you're around 19 years old) you will retire a millionaire by the age of 65-70. You could also do volunteer work (peace corps, habitat for humanity...etc)...it will always look good on job applications and your resume...just volunteer for something that you're interested in.

If you're looking at your future from a health perspective you could start a routine exercise program, eat healthier and surround yourself with supportive friends and family.

Open your mind. Don't ever allow yourself to believe you know everything. Learn to listen as well as speak. Accept love when it is offered. Don't just live, but have adventures throughout life.
Accept the fact that no amount of money (although it may make life easier), or anyone, will every make you happy. Only you can do that.
Continually question, learn, research and study EVERYTHING, not just what is comfortable for you.

Learn something (read a book, take a course), eat well, sleep well and get regular exercise. There's no better investment in yourself than a healthy lifestyle and a good education.

Plato gave good advice..."know thyself."

My guess is that he was speaking of the essence of who you are which in the East is called the Self or the "light of life."

This resource explains it... and this is what I would advise you to do. Increase that inner light and it will help you for the rest of your life.
