Airplanes, Submarines, Machine Guns, Tanks and Poison Gas were all first introduced in WW1 (OK so the machine gun was used a little earlier too but it became greatly improved and more prevalent in WW1)

Machine guns ended the massed charge strategy by mowing down soldiers by the thousands (it didn't mean that 'old school' generals didn't try though).

Tanks spelled the end of trench warfare because they could just go over the trenches and still be protected from the machine gun fire. (where massed charges failed the Tanks seemed to work)

Airplanes were first used for reconaissance only but then they figured out that they could be a good platform for weapons too and so guns and bombs were slowly introduced (they actually started by dropping bricks!).

Submarines meant that battleships were no longer the Queens of the ocean and now needed destroyers with depth charges to protect them.

Mustard gas and other terrible poisonous gasses were found to be really deadly (and equally deadly to one's own troops when the wind was blowing).

It was the first major war in which aircraft played a significant role. At first, they were used for recon, flying over and reporting, or snapping photos of, enemy positions. Recon pilots from opposing sides would sometimes snipe at one another with pistols, until specialized fighter aircraft were developed. Fighter tactics developed in WWI are still in use today.
It was also the first war in which machine guns were widely used. Because it took a while for the tactics to catch up to the technology, these devastating weapons killed many thousands of soldiers on both sides.
A third major technological innovation from the war was the tank. The first ones were undepowered and slow, but the designs were rapidly improved, and, like aircraft, they are a critical element of warfare to this day.

I've given you some good websites. I'd also advise that you visit your local library. Ask the reference librarian to help you search for good resources (they're usually pretty helpful).
