I live in a neighborhood that was considered the better part of town when we first moved here. After four years and a huge crack down on crime downtown the crime has moved here and this area is no longer safe. If we leave the house after dark my husband has his gun and I have my pepper spray. So, how safe is your neighborhood? Has it always been like that?

I've been living here for a year and a half. It's very safe. The only problems I had were some parties (noise), but that was many months ago.

My fiance and I moved here because it looked reasonably placid, mostly elderly and retired folk with a few young families.

A few months later I awoke to gun shots. We sort of thought it was a bit odd, but probably just someone being stupid. Then they started making a habit of it, at precisely 12:15 am every damn morning. At one stage , there were shots coming from opposites ends of the street...that was a little scary. We called the police and their response was "Well what do you want us to do about?" One night there was some kind of police chase and a helicopter with a spotlight was called in. Well the nitwit with the gun started firing shots every time the helicopter passed over. My fiance and I were standing out in the back and we thought it was rather ironic. Since then, we haven't heard anymore shots.
A few blocks away there was a terrorist bust. The guys had ammo, explosives, bomb making equipment, weapons and drugs.

So I guess that's a 'no'. Don't move to south western Sydney!!

Edit: Oops...almost forgot...yes I'd leave if I could.

My neighborhood is pretty safe as far as urban areas go, but if I had the resources I would leave just because I'd like to get a bigger house in a more rural area.

I live on a small estate in the countryside. We have had no problems here, even though most of the houses are empty for most of the year - they are mainly holiday homes.

Mind you, I am in Spain!! Not renowned for its high crime rate, even in the big cities.

I feel fairly safe where I live but you can go one mile in any direction here in Columbus, OH and run into a very unsafe part of town.

manhattan became these days referred to for being the main secure enormous city interior the country. no longer something is low fee in ny, no longer even Harlem. it is slightly handy, yet they fee plenty for that. Queens and Brooklyn are the extra fee-effective places to stay. Astoria, Woodside in Queens. Park Slope, Northside, Borough Park, Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge in Brooklyn.

My neighborhood is relatively safe. If I had a million dollars, I might move to a more picturesque area.

NO ONE can even get close without them knowing it, and they alert me at the same time by honking at whatever...I feel sorry for anyone who tries to get close to my house!!! lol
