Think of things you have that others in this world dont--there are many people who dont have heat in the winter, enough clothes to wear, or enough food to eat. Maybe you are very fortunate and dont even know it.

I personally find if I feel sad, it passes faster if I really allow myself to feel sad. I don't spend ages trying to work out why I feel sad, I accept that is how I feel. I tell myself its part of life, part of being alive, part of being a human with emotions and feelings.

I accept that no one is capable of being happy 100% of the time. So I know it will pass.

I try to keep things low key and don't apply extra stress to myself. I often decide the best course of action is to make a hot drink, fill up a hot water bottle, put some lavender essential oils in the oil burner... and to climb into bed to read a good book for an hour or two. Reading in a nice, cosy, warm bed takes me mind away from wallowing in my own sadness.

I often come on here and spend time answering questions. That again makes me think about things other than how I feel sad.

I might text or email someone just to say how I feel. With no expectations placed on them to DO anything or SAY anything to make me not feel sad. Just being able to say it, to share it helps break through the veneer of seclusion.

I find listening to some up beat music can help. As does a good walk. Where you can try to find some joy and beauty in the world around you.

A nice hot "scented" bath can help on an evening.

If you can find someone to give you a hug, that is better than anything else!

If you want to you can email me, I like to listen! Hang in there, this too shall pass. (HUGs)

Only you can decide to be happy. Nothing and no one can MAKE you happy, except you.
Make an effort to stop looking at life through tear filled glasses. Make an effort to love yourself and the life you have, no matter what circumstances you are in.
Learn to see the beauty in everything. Learn to take pleasure in little things. [The purr of a cat, the beauty of a flower, the taste of foods you like.]
Above all: take responsibility for your own emotions, thoughts and actions.
Believe me when I say I speak from experience. For many years I was depressed. I can't tell you when I specifically turned around, just that it takes constant work to change.
Write down positives and post them everywhere so you are constantly reminded. Fill up the emptiness with things that make you happy: pets, cooking, reading, playing games, sitting in coffee shops, sewing, walking, positive learning.

It takes effort to be sad all the time. It will take more effort to change, but it will be worth it.

Right now, right after you get done reading my answer, take a look back on your life, even if it was sad, and think of the things that made you happy, your happy memories, things that you've seen that brought you tears of joy, and know, that however small, there is still hope, for you, me, and everything/one else. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.

Try accepting the moments of sadness in your life, just as easily as you accept moments of happiness.

Then life will be beyond these two limiting emotions, and you will find that you will not need to ask this question again.

girls in white dresses, with blue satin sashes, snowflakes that fall on my nose and eyelashes, tiny little presents all tied up with strig, these are a few of my favorite things....when the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don't feel so bad.......
