Answer "d"
Transporting products from factories or mines for export trade made Britain wealthy - and wealth made her powerful - in the 1800s. By 1850, Britain produced more than two thirds of the coal and more than half of the world's iron and cloth. The U.S. by 1860 had more miles of railroad track. America is a larger country. Consumer goods should have become less expensive with cheaper transportation. Britain did NOT concentrate on just home markets. World markets and sea borne trade made her great.
