We are currently living in a new Barretts home apartment but wasting our money on rent.

We are now considering buying a different Barretts home apartment. However, for our budget we can only afford a ground floor plot (1st -3rd floor is an extra £10-20k!!)..

Why is it so cheap?

Its in an excellent area but we are mindful of the increased chance of break - in's for a ground floor apartment.... but what are the other disadvantages of buying a ground floor apartment...

Many thanks... xx

You don't get much of a view.
They can be colder and are usually darker.

There are lots of advantages too though. It's easier to furnish and you don't have to worry about the lift breaking down.
You also have a better chance of escape if there is a fire.

Well that sounds lovely. What about privacy though? Is that likely to be a problem? I hope not. Sounds like you should go for it. In fact let me know if you don't. I might be interested myself lol.

Flooding may be another factor. Back in July, parts of the town where I live were getting flooded in part I never thought could be. So this is something you'll have to take into serious consideration. Just for your interest, there's a photo of the town's main street, during the flood, in the attachment below.

The only thing i can think of is if you live in an area where it gets cold your heating bill will be a little higher since heat rises and you will be heating the apartments above you.. also you would not have a balcony would be another one. you will also not have any sort of a view. i hope those help answer your question.

Well for one, you cant have a bedroom window open at night in the summer. Then theres all the noise from above, our last flat , the woman above had the washing machine going at 1am, she seemed to hoover all night, every night & she had mad screamning sex sessions with her boyfriend.
Sounds funny, but it sure wasnt.
I'd say save some more & go up to the top, like we've done.

As you say break-ins and the noise above. Possibly a limited view. Do you get a garden tho?

Never get much sunlight, and they are always musty. Like a basement. B prepared to run a dehumidifier all the time.

You will probably hear the neighbours walking across the floor above you.
If they have a leak, you are flooded too.
