I am going to make a petition, but I NEED to know how to make one, how to persuade, what I should put in the petition, how I can distribute it and tell people about it, etc.

Hmm...not really sure if I put this in the right category. =P
As one quick add-on, the petition is about stopping the dolphin slaughter in Japan. I know that my chances of actually doing anything to help are slim, but I still want to do my part, at least.

Think of a good way to phrase your question or issue so that it appeals to a broad audience, then write it down on paper and start talking to people. You can go door to door (though I don't like being disturbed that way) or you can just go to a busy place and talk to people at random. You can also do it online. Just ask people their opinions of your issue and then ask them if they would like to write their name down supporting you.

There is a web site that hosts petitions (they're hosting one for people who support the Hollywood Writers' strike).

Maybe it has tips on how to create and word petitions.

You word it in a "We, the undersigned" -- that is that's the subject of the sentence.

You need a specific thing that "we" are calling on "someone" (some specific person, company, government) to do, or refrain from doing.

Instead of making your own petition, is there an on-line community that shares your concern? Maybe hooking up with them -- they may already have a petition; if not, you may inspire them to do one; they may be able to help with the how's.

BTW, don't try to use this site to get signatures. That's a no-no, since this site is for quesitons, and "sign my petition" is a request and will probably be removed.

Good luck with it.

If you go to unitedhollywood's web site, you can probably navigate to the petition site.
