Their mommas didn't raise any dummies. Why walk when you can fly.
Sometimes I wish I was a bird and could fly.
If I was a bird I'd be a 500 lb canary!

Many breeds are just wooses and cant take the cold. They act just like people. They eat bugs, flit from flower to flower and then realize, at the last minute that they should have left yesterday.
So they fly. It's the fastest way to go when you're in a hurry. Just like people...not enough time for a train and definately too late to walk. However, chickadees, nuthatchs, and finchs will stay here with me for the winter. They dont go south...they stay here and hang out at my many outdoor cafes for winter dwellers who didnt fly or walk south.

no this is totally wrong
they fly south because of the simple fact that the amount of water they need to cross and most birds cant swim , so its easier to do one thing at a time which is to fly.

the other reason as my young son has just told me is that the compass the birds use doesn't work below 30feet above ground level. As he said have you ever seen a bird check its compass > No they are to high up
