I was driving down the street today and I saw a teenager wearing a sign that said, "I shoplift, I lie to my parents and I don't go to school" What do you think of having a teenager wear a sign like that for a form of punishment?

humiliation doesnt work

listening works

the parents and the culture are pathetic

i hope they enjoyed the taste of blood and the irrevocable damage they caused that kid

so when he comes to school with a gun and blows a few people away we can all say "we have no idea. he was just a bad kid"

I think that's an awesome way of punishing somebody but it may mean that other people may rope him in to do a bit of their own dirty work though which is quite worrying.

Naming and shaming is always the best method!

Bet that boy won't leave his room ever again let alone shoplift! Won't help to get him to go to school though!

It's quite a good idea. Teenagers often do silly things to look cool in front of their friends, so I definitely think the idea of having to wear a sign like that would work as a deterrent for some. :-)

The flaw in the plan is that if the youngster is that badly behaved, they do no longer look to be going to do any of this. the father and mom have not been waiting to regulate the youngster's habit below time-honored circumstances, so why might they be waiting to gain this for a "weekend boot camp" that's no longer a real boot camp in any respect? They understand the thank you to get around their father and mom. In an genuinely boot camp, that they had be helpless. Their (emotional) survival might rely on doing what they have been instructed. They realize it isn't any longer real of their father and mom.

I think if he went to school, told the truth, and didn't steal, he wouldn't have to wear the sign.

Humiliation can be a very effective punishment. I don't suggest you start off that way, but if other forms of discipline are not working, you need to try something that does.

As a teenager i must say. THATS AWESOME. I would be so mad at my parents if they did that to me but it would work.

EDIT: What affects teenagers the most is embarrasment. Being embarresed in front of thousands of commuters, that would work

The teen will probably think it was cool and that they got off easy. Doubtful it will teach them a thing.

Yes, that's PERFECT. I'd take pictures and whenever the kid started acting up, I'd whip those pictures out.
