My buddy says the pool is the toilet and the friends are the turds.

Yes, I have heard many variations of the same saying. Like "drop the kids off at the pool"....
But yeah that is basically what they are saying.

"I'm going to drop some friends off at the pool" means I shall drive my car and release passengers at the door of the natatorium.

"I'm gonna drrrrop! some friends off at the poo-ool" means I'm going to be reading for a while. And don't strike any matches.

it can do - but obviously doesn't have to.

sometimes 'punching a nun' means punching a nun.
