I had the same problem too, my nano was frozen and I couldn't move the wheel. I tried several things, but to no avail ( turning on and off the lock several times, pressing hard the play/pause button etc).Later, I decided why not try turning the lock on one more time( turns orange when on), then turn it off. Then I pressed menu and the center of the wheel at the same time for 10 seconds, and boom, it worked. I hope this helps.

First unlock your ipod.
Push the menu and center buttons at the same time for a while until your ipod turns off.
Wait a few second.
Then you'll see a grey apple icon appear on your screen.
After that the ipod main menu will appear.
Your ipod should be unfrozen.
If this doesn't work go to http://www.apple.com/support/.
GOOD LUCK!!

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

press and hold the menu button, see if that helps. i've had the same problem, but i got mine from costco, so i just took it back and got a new one. where did you get yours? maybe you should take it back and see what they tell you. or even better, just go to an apple store, they'll fix it for you.

You could try re-setting it.
Just hold the "menu" and "center" buttons down simultaneously for a few seconds...
If that doesn't work, I don't know what else will.

Hold the top and middle at the same time, it may take a while, but it will reset itself and start over.
