Hi,
I got a computer from work for free. I was finally able to get to start but I get a network log in that I can't by pass to get to the PC. I tried to log in in a safe mode but still not able to bypass the log in window. Is there away to get in withouth having to re-format the PC?

Thanks

Get the administrator password from the IT guys at your work. If you IT dept works like the company I work for - every company owned computer has the same admin password.

Open wall software makes a small linux boot disk called "John The ripper" which will go ahead and spit the usernames and passwords out too you.

Also Peter Nordal has a similar tool that is a bit more straight forward.
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

AUSTRUMI version 0.9.2 if you can still find it will change or erase password in a windows registry, but it can be touchy.

My fear here is that even having the user name and password won't do you any good, because likely the "network login" authenticates over ldap to a server that you don;t have access to. If you have stuff on that machine you need to keep, you can get at it other ways like a parallel install.

Good luck. I'd try the Peter Nordal tool.

be sure that your "targeted visitor" account on your vista laptop isn't "disabled" goto administration panel > admin equipment > comp administration > consumers > make confident the targeted visitor account would not have a crimson X close to it. goto administration panel > admin equipment > community protection coverage - make confident the targeted visitor account is listed decrease than "get entry to this laptop from the community"
