if you get thumbs down you don't loose point and if you get thumbs up you don't get point either unless you question is chosen as the best answer you will get 10 points + X thumbs up

No it's not minus one point for every thumbs down. You only get points for however many thumbs up you get.

no it's just +points for thumbs up. so, the minimum points to get for a best answer is 10 pts, but it can be higher than just that if you have thumbs up.
