not much,
I've lived here for four years before and 6 months ago moved back to the area.
out of all Sydney I've lived in i would have to say i dislike this place the most.
i hate going any where near ashfield mall....and it's not that great of a shopping center, the shops suck.
you got a few pubs and clubs (wests leagues and ashfield rsl)
it used to be a quite place when i lived here before. but in the past month my neighbor and i have been on my balcony when we have heard gun shots not that far away and 5 separate occasions. we had that shooting at ashfield the other week.
it didn't make the news not sure way but the next suburb over summer hill had an incident at the shopping center car park, with at least two bodies been taken away.
don't mean to scare you away from the place, all areas have there pro's and con's. you may find that you really like it hear :)

Ashfield? I don't live there but my boyfriend's, brother's, best friend lives in Croydon which is near Ashfield so we hang out there quite a bit. It's fun to be in, a quiet little suburb close to the CBD. It's not really a tight-knit suburb where everyone knows each other, it's more of a busy place. It's really nice, it has it's own train station as well as a shopping mall. The Shopping Mall isn't too big but it is very close to Burwood Westfield so it's really quite nice. There are lot's of parks and it's especially nice on the half of Ashfield where the Mall is. The other half is great as well but it has brought bad things upon Ashfield, like kidnappings, murders, etc. That shouldn't put you off though. (:

Not a lot really. An RSL or Bowling club - a westfield, a park.
It is close to the city though, so you should be able to go out there and get home for about $20 in a taxi.
That's probably the upside to Ashfield

It's definitely not a 'touristy' place. Just handy to the city because of the train station. Lots of flats as well as houses. It's heavily populated, got a good shopping mall and a swimming pool. But it depends on which part of Ashfield you're talking about. It's quite a big suburb.

An average middle class suburb. I doubt that it would be on any tourist itinerary.
