What is a lie?

I have somebody walk into the office and say what do you think about *x*. I say she is horrible she isn’t doing anything blah blah blah.

She walks in. I say what’s up? She says how am I doing? I say you are doing your best, that’s all we asked. Keep going.

Is that a lie? Or do you base your responses on other peoples feelings? Do you lie to yourself so they feel better? Or do you just rip them apart?

Do you lie to them or yourself? Or do you put yourself ouside of your scenario and look at it another way.

So the point is do you lie because of them or you?

Sav... nice answer.

Saying you may keep truths to yourself. Using your own conscience to decide if they should know it. You decided not to tell everything to help them.

So is that a lie?

I think its best never to lie, but I think we are all guilty of it at one time or another regardless of its type.

I think we all have a right to our opinions and sometimes we should keep them to ourselves, unless asked for them. In which case I think our opinions are ok to have even though they may differ. Its all about how we see something and then perceive it and process what it means to us. No reason to lie about our opinion, we can pass on it or state it. I think most just need to be willing to accept things vary between us and its ok.

I think some truths are better kept to ourselves. Its still a personal opinion and it may reflect someone as if its gold when others may disagree.

I think I if I lie I lie for both reasons. Myself and others. I think the truth most times is easier all around than a lie, but sometimes the truth is just not necessary to share.

I don't think what you said to the girl was a lie, it just wasn't a full truth. It was in protection of feelings, and in the work place may have been more encouraging than yelling or telling the full truth, although it may not promote any change. If you told your workers all you expected was their best then to acknowledge its someones best is not a lie. They might not be able to do more so they are doing a good job by their own capabilities. Which is what you expected from them.

If I lie, its usually in protection of the other person. I am not perfect I do foolish things sometimes, and its easier to admit it than to contiue making up excuses or denying it. I'm pretty forward most times, so I suppose I don't need the security of hiding behind a lie. Sometimes I might run around the truth because I think another person does need me to hide my opinion. I don't have to many reasons in my day to lie.

What you said is not a lie because you didn't answer her question directly. You evaded it which is ok if she accepts that. Do I lie? Hmmmm, sometimes less than the truth like you said is more appropriate since the end result can be extremely harmful to someone. You are using compassion and that's all anyone can ask of you.

In that situation, it could be the truth, since she may be trying but be a horrible worker. A lie is simple, something that doesn't correspond with the truth.
