I do not watch Oprah often, but the other day, I happen to catch a bit of her show, with regards to lovers who are separated by circumstances beyond their control, and through perseverance they manage to reunite and have a life together. One couple made it through the Holocaust. One man, a Doctor, fell in love with a girl he saw in a photograph, and he found her again when she was 60. They are married today. These are extreme circumstances of perseverance and love conquers all, but it does happen on occasion.
And by the way, even if lovers get re-united, it may not be the same, but it can be better, as long as both of them feel the same way and know that soul mates are not easy to find.

I agree, Tom Hanks is an extraordinary actor and you could say that his acting was what made the film what it is, such a success. He was on the Island for a long time and his only company was a volleyball which he named 'Wilson.' At first he was aware that it was indeed just a volleyball, but as time went by and he began to realise that he was completely on his own with nobody else to turn to and talk to, Wilson then became his only friend. Having a friend was important to him at the time, especially to someone who is alone every day, every month for a vast amount of time. He then became very attached to the ball, and accepted it as a real person, something he could talk to and generally just have there for company. It did become physiological eventually though.. Chuck started to believe that Wilson was real and could hear what he was telling him. Therefore when he looses him and cannot get him back, Chuck panics and realises that Wilson was the only company he had, and without him he will have nothing to rely on or even depend on, like he did before the ball drifted away. The thoughts that must have been running through his head are quite unimaginable, seen as it's very unlikely that this would actually happen. I think the film can be quite confusing and misleading, but if you think about the complicated aspects of it, it becomes quite simple and interesting. It is defiantly a scenario that you wouldn't like to find yourself in. The mystery of the plot is an important aspect which makes it gripping and exciting to watch.

In Castaway Tom Hanks was thought to be dead becuz he was missing for i think 7 years?? Its rough to expect someone to fall right back into the same relationship as if nothing happened..and she had remarried and had a baby. I think the chances are pretty slim if that same situation were to happen to anyone. Life has to go on even though there was no fault on anyone. Tom did meet another lady at the end of the movie tho..

People change as they age. Same with feelings towards other people.

If you broke off a relationship under bad terms, it's really hard to put aside all the anger and sadness the relationship went under.
If you and the other person can close up old wounds and start over, that's great. But for the most part, those relationships never work out. The past has a way of rearing its ugly head.
