the future of biotechnology is not just with plants but fish splised tomato is highly likely. it would be just like a tomato but it has the good proteins of a fish in it. no physical change only chemical. but I'm more into the Human interact with and control technology with their mind part for biotech(if im thinking of the wrong thing plz correct me this will be my job in the future) i think that human controlling tech with their minds and having more advanced prosthetics we would be in a would of i show i watch.(Ghost in a Shell) which is a world in the future where most humans change from a fregal human body to a sturdy prosthetic body controlled by the only bio part needed for them (the brain) which hints the term Ghost in a Shell but there r plenty of good things about this field but there just this one thing that will happen in the future if we ever find out how to contain the brain in a shell and keep it alive and working with technology

I think that Science fiction today becomes the goal of future engineers. However only a fraction of the ideas are ever realized and the tech rarely lives up to the hype.
In the '40s there was plenty of science fiction of space travel and space stations. The kids that were inundated with that were the engineers of the '60s that got astronauts to the moon.
in the '60s there was star trek, twilight zone, lost in space, voyage to the bottom of the sea. Living in space or on the ocean bottom is only getting realistic within the last 10 years. But still kid of the 60s are the 40 something engineers of today.
The 70's were the era of genetic mutation and manipulation, via cosmic radiation for the fantastic 4, radioactive spider bite, or toxic avenger. Genetic manipulation of lesser species is reality now, but human manipulation is still a few years away.
The 80s had starwars, and we still haven't perfected mag levitation or plasma shape control, but it's on the drawaing boards.
So I think Ghost in the Shell and other '90s sci fi will be in the minds of people who are completing their engineering degrees in the next 10 years, and maybe we'll see some of the facets of the genre worked into reality between 2020 and 2040. But it will be longer or never before the reality 'closely matches' the sci fi image.

look into Bioethics if you're into how morally right it is to do genetic engineering. You could easily get a really good job that pays well.
