You can grow bush watermelons that take up a lot less space and are happy growing in a tub or barrel if space is limited, Sugar Baby comes to mind. But they need full sun and lots of water, not really suitable for growing indoors unless you have a conservatory or big greenhouse. Just type growing watermelons in google and you will get plenty of sites.

Full sunlight, but they need adequate soil preparation, fertilizer, and LOTS of water. Also lots of room.... at least 10 feet by 10 feet for each plant.

just take the seeds and throw them on the ground outside and soak the seeds in water
