in my teenage mind frame, i said to my younger brother and sister, due to the fact i had just cleaned my room, that if you mess it up i will kill you
i left to go to a sleep over, they both passed on in a house fire that night
while i know that they know i didnt mean it, those are the words i would so take back if i could

I'm stumped here. Honest. There are a number of things I have said and done that I regret. But to be perfectly honest, I have learned from those things. I don't regret the lessons I have learned.
My only regret is that I have hurt others along the way. And I never meant to do that. Hope they know that...

Most of the time, you really don't. It's just as much to comfort yourself in the situation as it is to comfort the person you claim you understand. Feelings, words, whatever it might be, you can really only understand the world through your own faculties, not somebody else's.
