My company is cutting the work force and has laid off some of my co-workers. Since I'm not planning on continuing my employement with them anyway, is it possible to volunteer to be laid off and trade other players back ? How do I go about doing that?

Just speak to your boss about it, and tell him what's up. I'm sure he won't mind.

You can't really un-lay-off other employees by volunteering to be laid off. But you could prevent someone else from being laid off.

Just keep in mind, the first people laid off are often people that are somewhat on the cusp of being fired, or are no longer necessary. If you were not selected for the layoffs, they must want to keep you.

And be prepared, you may end up resigning with none of the benefits of a layoff by stating you don't want to work for their company any more. Or, they may just fire you. Tread carefully.

You can only volunteer if the employer asks for volunteers. Sometimes they do.
