She's not being very respectful of you and your wishes. She could be worried that you are not going to get enough to eat which is a valid concern. So many people seem to go veggie without any guidance, and then can't figure out why their hair and skin look so bad. (and yes, I am talking about someone I knew) If you educate yourself well though, you can educate her instead of butting heads over this. Really the best thing for you to do is start cooking for yourself. I don't know how old you are, but you can look up recipes online or find a beginner's veggie cookbook. I've been cooking since I was in junior high at least, so it's possible to do. The most important thing right now is for you to learn how and what to eat so you aren't depriving yourself of important nutrients. Vegetarian food is cheaper than meat, so if cash is short right now, maybe you can go shopping with your mom to help her pick out things for you that you can cook. If she sees that the dried beans, veggies, pasta, and whatnot are cheaper than the meat she is buying, maybe she'll even be inclined to throw in a veggie night or two.

How does being a vegetarian and homophobia come together?
Homophobia is the fear of homosexuals. Vegetarian is an entirely different thing. I do see a large number of gays at my local health food store. I used to work at one where I had my first 2 lesbian relationships blossom over tofu salad sandwiches and carrot juice. I sure do miss Denise, she could do some amazing things in her yoga class and April made great tabouli.

Just tell her. If you really want to be a vegetarian, why not? It is healthy for you and good for the world as a whole. (meat production consumes a LOT of energy and creates a LOT of waste)

By the way, what does dietary choice have to do with your sexual inclinations? I don't understand.

For the record, I'm a large muscular athletic man and I'm about 90% vegetarian (which seems to make everybody uncomfortable; puritan vegitarians think I'm evil for eating any meat and meat eaters think I'm weird for not eating meat every day, but it works for me). I'm 100% heterosexual but I don't have any problem with gay people (as long as they don't try to push it on me).

Vegetarians, is way different from homosexuality.
So why should she care if you are vegetarian?

Just tell her this:

"Mom, I don't think it's right to eat animals. I'm simply not going to do it anymore."

And leave it at that.

Might as well tell her you're gay, give her the good news before you drop the bombshell that you're vegetarian.

What does being a vegetarian have to do with homosexuality? You know one of the most popular religions,Bhuddism, encourages people to be vegetarians from sun rise to sun set every 1st and 15th of the lunar month.Of course, being as ignorant as you probably are,you wouldn't know anything outside your comfortable little shell you call your life.

I told my mom i was vegetarian some years back. She was supportive about it even though she didn't want me to be one. I would just go for it.

I'm confused, if she is homophobic why would she be upset if you were a vegetarian? Those two aren't connected...

If by vegetarian you mean you pound dudes' buttholes, make her a nice tofu stir-fry and tell her straight up that you kick it at the manhole; if she goes nuts tell her to suck on your bean curd
