People with common sense can evaluate any situation and discern what facts are relevant to making the proper decision.

There are some people that are considered very smart that have trouble making what would seem obvious choices. However there is really no correlation between the two. The are plenty of Very Intelligent people that have common sense.

You will find the lack of common sense in people that tend to adhere to Dogma. The people that need to be told on what to think and how to act.

Intelligence is quatitative. We have I.Q., SAT, math tests, among others. "Common" sense is subjective. It tends to be value based. I would agree that you cannot gain common sense through learning. It may be considered innate. It could be related to wisdom, but I would not outright call the two the same thing. Intelligence is the measurement of what you recall from what you have learned. I think you are arguing book smarts to actual intelligence. I have a Bachelors Degree, but have been told that I have little common sense. It's easy for someone to say that to me when they have been doing a labor job for years and I have done the same job once or twice in my life. I argue that common sense isn't really that. It is life's experience being applied to the everyday.

Common sense: something that is "commonly" known, it's wide-spread and is known by most people Intelligence: I don't know about others, but I believe intelligence is something more than just knowing a lot of things, sure, you could be able to memorize all of the countries in alphabetical order, but to me, that doesn't necessarily mean you're "smart". I think that to be able to be called "intelligent" you have to be a bit more creative than that. Anyways, it's hard to say which is better, with common sense you are more of a street-smart kind of person. But, being intelligent is a gift, and gifts should always be appreciated. Either way as long as you have a fully-functioning brain, that should be just enough Just the way I see it.

Common sense, judging from my own observations of people in general, is the ability to think out a problem or situation according to the parameters as they *are* rather than how a text book - for example - says that they are. I don't think that common sense is in opposal to intelligence or cleverness, I think what it is in opposal to is a certain obsession over every detail and the ability to work every aspect of the problems that occur within a subject or range of subjects that a person is fascinated by and has chosen to study and work in. I believe that the inability to apply the same quantity and quality of thinking to what tend to be more mundane tasks or subjects that don't interest these people is what we observe to be a lack of common sense. On the whole the speed and agility with which a person is able to work in certain areas is almost innate to them because of their obsession with what fascinates them. If it doesn't fascinate them then that mindset doesn't innately apply. They would have to work hard to learn to do the things that just 'make sense' to the rest of us.

I think common sense IS intelligence; if a common sense judgement is right it cannot be anything else providing it is a persons own opinion and not a copied answer.

Some people perhaps even a lot of people confuse education with intelligence, now these are two different things.
A person can be educated but not intelligent or intelligent but not educated, a lucky few are both.

Yes,I had a friend that was very intelligent, but did not have any common sense. Intelligence is about the ability to learn, common sense is about the ability to do what is in your own and those you loves best interest, . I think it's better to have a equal parts of both.

Something I have always noticed too. The more intelligent they are at work the lack of common sense seems to be seen at home.
