"Since Bill passed" is an artificial landmark to measure change versus stasis.
Now, what do I think of Chicago with Kane, Toews, Lang and Jason Williams? A much better team. I'm tired of them beatin' on "my" Red Wings! Tonight, they face off in Detroit. It'll be fun to watch, and much more relavent to me than Buckeye/Wolverine football!!

Generation upon generation of young sports fans grew up in the Chicago area never being able to actually see the Blackhawks because Wirtz kept them off the tube in order to fill seats in the arena ... a fatal mistake for the franchise over the long haul.
Now that Bill is gone, the team is going to be on TV almost 40 times next year. I think a lot more of the Blackhawks franchise.

Bill's passing had no effect on the what the team has done on the ice. Every single player change was done with his blessing while he was still alive. So, If he were alive today...........I think the standings would look the same.
The test will come starting the end of this year when we see how Rocky looks at the league and what kind of orders he gives to Tallon. How much money will Talklon have to work with? Who can he sign? etc.
That will be when the management change becomes noticeable. But the players Denis currently has to work with...........are all Bill's (and Peter's)

Could you please explain how the decision not to air home games was a 'fatal' mistake? The Black Hawks sold out all but 19 games between 1958 and 1998. The Wirtz family owned the team that entire time (and still does).
As for not being on TV at all.............37 of Chicago's 41 road games were available on TV in Chicago last year. The television blackout ONLY extended to home games.

I like 'em. They look like they are finally heading in the right direction. Kane and Toews look like they will eventually make up the best combo Chicago has had since Larmer and Sivard.
I don't think this has anything to do with the death of Bill Wirtz, though. Just coincidental.

Great abundance of youth. A Stanley Cup winning goalie. Playoffs a year away if not gaining a low seed this year. As for contender, they lack defensive presence.
