If trying in vain to fill a void can lead to happiness, then they are on the right path. Myself, I could not live a lie. I pride myself on having a high moral standard with respect to my entire life, not just the parts that are convenient at the moment.

My wife was sick with cancer for three years. It would have been easy enough to find some companionship with someone else, but I can hold my head up and say that I respected her dignity until the day that she died from the disease.

I'd doubt very much that they're happy.
First of all, there must have been something lacking in their married life to go get it elsewhere.
Next, they may be getting some excitement out of the fear of getting caught.
On the other hand, they find themselves in the impossibility of persuing any one thing properly at a time.
The only ones who can be happy are the ones who know that they have nothing to worry: the wife will never dump them and they can find another bit on the side any time to replace the old ones!
So, everybody has their own concept of happyness and marriage!

Obviously they are not happy people cause they gotta go else where to even make themselves happy or shall we say just satisfied for the moment. I think some people have affairs cause they are drawn to the excitement the double life thing to see how much they could get away with before they get caught.. they have no idea what pain and misery they are creating for the one on the other end!!!!!!

Depends - those who have a string of casual affairs probably shouldn't have committed themselves in the first place. They are constantly seeking but will probably never find happiness. However speaking with the experience of someone who was stuck in a loveless marriage I can say that striking up a relationship with a wonderful woman has brought me far more happiness than marriage, children, stability, security, etc. ever did.

The reality is those that go around having affairs are most likely not happy with their lives. Either party that is.

i believe people who have affairs are unhappy with themselves, and have these affairs because they think it will make them happy. how could anyone be happy being deceitful and having to lie all of the time. i think they are very unhappy people who are searching for something outside of their selves, but in reality what they seek is right inside themselves.

Maybe happy with the moment, but not with the mess they make of their lives, especially when they end up with a partner who just turns into the old model.
