I'm 3/4 German. So I may be 25% more offensive than you.

First of all, Germans are not a race. They are a country and culture. I lived there for three years and loved it. I have lived all over the world and I find that people are just about the same everywhere. Good and bad in a mix. On a real positive note, the German people are real party animals on the holidays. Many are kind enough to take home foreign soldiers like me and treat them to their ways. If any here have done this I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

However, if someone who is German insults me - then I might be offended. Same thing as if a Brit, American, or Burmese person said something insulting....
Does your non-German half feel offended by your German half?

No, in fact I wouldn't be offended by anyone just because of their ethnicity. And I'm part German, so of course not.

OTOH, my dad's Uncle Otto seems to have been something of a schmuck.

Only when they are rude as the idiotic German young woman I met with her father in the Piazza Navona in Italy in October, 2004 who assumed her narrow, ignorant views of Americans were accurate or welcomed.

Germans, no. Nazis, yes. I do believe my boss hired one. Yesterday he said, "We should have gone all out and bombed the @#$! out of Britain. We could have liberated them and won the war right then and there." Not making this up!
