Evelyn -not a fan off, to old fashioned and fuddy sounding, (no offence) sounds like an old maid school teacher

Kahlan - will always have a problem with this being mispronounced her entire life, although not a bad sounding name if perhaps spelled differently, she will probably always be just Kay though, and a little "fad" sounding

Katherine/Kate - -classy, intelligent, aristocratic just a solid good sounding name that at 1 month or 100 years will sound good and fit, a classic will never go out of fashion....

Evelyn - sweet, intelligent and perhaps a bit old-fashioned (in a good way -- good manners, lovely disposition, not whiny or misbehaved, etc.). ;) I can see Evelyn fitting a girl of nearly any appearance, which is a plus ... blond, brunette, dark- or light-skinned, etc. Not the sort that elicits any certain mental image, in other words. Per the "old lady" comments, the nickname Evie is actually perfectly fitting for any adorable little girl, and I seriously doubt anyone would assume her a grandmother. LOL That's just odd thinking, especially given the popularity of all the Eve names (Eve, Eva, Evangeline ... even Evelyn itself!). ;)

Kahlan - on paper, I'd think HIM a boy with very trendy, uneducated parents, since they'd obviously felt the need to "modernize" Colin. If spoken, I'd simply assume it a little girl with yet another trendy K- name (Kayla, Kayleigh, Kyla, Kylie, Kylin, Kaitlyn, etc.), and then seeing it spelled out would make me wonder how in the world the parents thought the Kah- beginning blend could possibly say "Kay," since "ah" is, well, "ah" in nearly every language I'm familiar with. ;)

Katherine/Kate - simply classic. Kate to me says crisp and clean, so on a little girl I'd picture a well-kept, intelligent type just as easily reading a book or kicking a soccer ball. Very versatile, in other words. And knowing the full name was Katherine would up the impression just a bit, since I'd know her parents had obviously considered how well such a classic beauty would carry her into adulthood. Just a good image all around.

Evelyn is beautiful and classic - very elegant - shortened to Evie for a baby/child, it sounds sweet. Kahlan sounds pretentious - a name that the poor girl will always have to spell or explain. Katherine/Kate is a friendly, traditional name - nice.

Evelyn-kind of a tom boy type but it does okay in school!!!

Kahlan-More of a kind of a princess (not really a princess just like a princess or she is just girly)

Katherine/Kate -they would be normal.they would have brown/black hair and they will just try out for anything and they have a special talent!!

Well i prefer Katherine, because you can think of so many nicknames for her, but a polite funny person comes to mind for her. Everlyn is more for like an older boring person. no offense, just my opinion, buts its also a pretty name. Kahlan is ok, just the spelling throws me off, but what comes to mind very interesting and unique.

Evelyn is my great grandmother's name. Not really, but it sounds really, really old.
Kahlan sounds foreign, maybe Indian. Very smooth and calming to the ears.
Katherine-Katherine Hepburn She's strong, very strong, very opinionated, knows what she wants and goes for it.
Kate - Kate is my teenage babysitter with lots of energy and bounce, makes good grades and is always responsible.
