The old man spoke about spoke about oranges, mythologies, cigarettes and chalk. Illuminated iPods, isms, green beans and glass. He showed me wrist watches and neck ties. He lectured me on his remote control theory and gave me a mask. I asked him about life, he shrugged and he laughed; said to me “wash your hands” and “never trust maps.”

So I walked home backwards, counting stop signs and stars. I saw the big dipper. I saw lights, buildings, and cars. Pedestrians screamed “ are you crazy?” I shrugged and I laughed. A vagrant inquired about change, I told him “wash your hands” and made him a map.
