I think non-existence is conceptually conceivable. It is describable only via negativa.

God is not an invention. But I won't vent here, it's not my place or time.
Back to your question: Can you imagine non-existence?
As humans, non-existence is certainly terrifying. Humans are naturally curious, and when we do not have the answer, we go crazy. But if you're able to forget you're a human, you can think about it this way:
If you die and you move to paradise, great! If you die and there's nothingness, you won't know the difference.
I believe an ancient Greek philosopher said something like that. And though I believe in God, I know where he's coming from. It's okay we don't know somethings, but that quote makes it a little less scary.
No. We cannot imagine non-existence. We can ponder it, but no one knows what it is like because clearly, none of us have been there. Being alive is enough to negate the very thought. It's scary when you think about nothing, but it's important to look past that, and look back to your own beliefs. If not, you can always look to that quote.

Your right, when i try to imagine non-existence I imagine blackness..but if it was truely non-existance there would be no color. It is impossible to see non-existence because we havent experienced it. The only reason we can imagine someones face, or a color, or a birthday party from years ago is because we have been there and weve seen it. The thing you arent right about is that isnt why people invented God. If you want to believe that people just INVENTED God, then believe that because people needed a reason to live. Believe it because they were scared to die and not ready to give up what they have.

Nothing is colorless...that's just not possible. I mean, if you could actually see in this non-existant world...you'd have to see some color. Maybe not a color you've seen before...but...something.
Ok, I'm not answering the question here. Just focusing on the color thing.
People invented God just so they could answer questions to how they were there and...left it at that. Ok, God created us all, let's stick to that.
I'm not willing to believe that, though, because to me it doesn't seem very logical, but yeah. THAT'S why God was invented, I think.

Actually all universe, world and human-beings are the inventions of God. These are creations of a supreme power called God who no longer wanted to stay idle and wanted to do something interesting. We are all results of his imaginations and inventions. For Him the darkness would have been nothing. Who knows his past situation?

Non-existence is the other macro aspect of existence, you wake and you sleep.
God was invented to help children sleep better and is maintained by ignorance of children over the age of consent and the greed of the religious organizations.

Yes. Nothingness is terrifying. Even though you won't be aware of it, the tought that your existence comes to an end is scary. This is a very easy fear to capitalize on, thus the various fantasies of an afterlife and reincarnation etc..

yes, and maybe.
I always imagined that gods were invented to make sense of the inexplicable and to be able to have the feeling of having some control by trying to appease these gods who allowed such chaos.
So yes the scariness of imagining nothingness xould probably be assuaged by having a god of nothingness whose realm it was. Then you could make deals with her/him/it and pray for continued existence. yes it works!

no, i cant imagine non-existence of myself, and no i dont think this is why people believe in God
i can only think in terms of this existence about what not existing would be, what it would mean, plus it wouldnt be never ending, for something to end it must begin, and it wouldnt be clear, it wouldnt be anything!
i think people believe in God for various reasons, mostly to deal with this existence, and to deal with concepts of this that we know ending
many others think in the terms of the spirit, and of basic organization , if we are of the spirit, wouldnt there be a leader? its part of our human nature to think in terms of leadership, organization, a plan
