I don't know. Maybe its the royal families that are occupying and fighting for the White House that clues us in?

How do you define democracy? Government of the people by the people? Under the British first past the post voting system a government can win an overall majority with less than 40% of the total votes cast. This then becomes a virtual dictatorship.
With proportional representation that same party would have 40% [or less] of the seats and would have to reach a compromise with the the other parties before it could push its policies through.
Then again Margaret Thatcher was probably correct in saying that just because the majority wants something doesn't make it right.
Maybe we're all really looking for a benevolent God-like dictatorship.

I'm not an elitist, kind of the opposite. I have so much faith in the average individual that I'm some sort of ultra-libertarian who believes that everyone would be better off if left to their own free will. But to me, democracy doesn't work because its a way for 51% of the population to control the other 49%. I really like the concept of a limited constitutional republic because many laws should theoretically be off limits.
America wasn't a democracy for 200 years but it is becoming one. "Democracy" didn't make it the world power, the trend toward Democracy has run concurrently with the trend toward Socialism.

How do these same elitists justify the historic fact that democracy in America has resulted, in just a little over 200 years, as arguably the greatest country on earth?
For some reason that escapes me, they have adopted a socialist agenda.

A long historical record. The Dutch and the Russians both had democratic systems at one time in both cases they discovered that it did not work and invited Kings in to rule them.
The average human is to stupid to understand the concepts of self government and cooperation. So democracy is impossible.

Democracy is the most stupid form of government ever developed.strange that it seems to be the only one that works. I would add a proviso that it can not be imposed only developed .
I think we should look a little more carefully at our aims of trying to give democracy at the end of a bomb or a bullet

they dont. Their conclusions (the elitists), and I presume you mean the political elitists, conclude that the only thing that is impossible is the non payment of exorbitant taxes

democracy in its pure form needs openness honesty and truth. all Governments govern to the assumption that 90% of the electorate have no understanding of commerce etc and so!! would not understand the complexity of the processes involved.( couldnt get their head around the bull sh*t) ...SO!! baring that in mind they cant tell the truth. they cant be honest and cant be open. if they were!! and we saw what was going on we would throw the vast magority of MPs in prison for theft criminal deception and treason.

Because they believe most humans are incapable of making wise decisions and running their own lives. They all feel people must be given every thing they need because they are not smart and determined enough to provide for themselves. There way is always the right way and if you don't agree it's because your not as smart as them.
