Why do all Ministers need such high salaries and lavish lifestyles (minus legitmate job expenses of course). What a welcome shock it would be to us hard-pressed taxpayers if suddenly along came a Prime Minister who insisted in living in a council house, and driving around in a mini.
He`d probably get voted out for being such a crackpot eccentric!

It's hard to think of a job on similar salary that requires no qualifications, no talent, no experience and has no written job description or rota of working hours!

We already have a crackpot Prime Minister who lives in a council house. And just to prove how much 'in touch' with us all he is, he doesn't pay any rent for his modest little terraced house in the Borough of Westminster. Nor does he pay any Council Tax, nor does he pay to have his rubbish collected.

So in a way, its just as though he was on benefit. That must be why he is so understanding about all the other foreign immigrants who are milking the economy of this country.

He probably only buys all his groceries from Scottish shops, has an account with The Bank of Scotland, and sends most of his English wages, back home to support his family in Scotland as well.

As for your suggestion that our MP's etc., have high salaries. That is not at all true. Their salaries are peanuts compared to what they make from their part time directorships, backhanders, free holidays, fiddled expenses and bribes.

Didn't Matthew Parris and Michael Portillo do such a thing by way of a publicity stunt for ONE WEEK?

Portillo stayed with a Family, and Matthew Parris stayed on his own living on a job seekers basic allowance if memory serves me correctly.

Even Anne Widdecombe got in on the media bandwagon recently - AFTER she had retired from politics.. PHEW !!

Can you IMAGINE ANY of the lot we have today doing such a thing WITHOUT TV CAMERAS monitoring them...and seriously editing them so they'd be seen in the best light possible.. ie living in such "hardship" when the cameras are rolling... and probably paying them..

Great way to drum up support though just before Gen Election ..lol IF anyone did that, they should be made to continue in that lifestyle for the entire time they are in Government.. or in the Cabinet..

I'd vote for them the following Gen election.. having had proof of thier committment to thier constituents.

Well if he was prime minister and earning all that money he would not be entitled to live in a council house ! Nevermind old Gordy is a bit of an eccentric - he has just turned up for the Scotland vs Italy match in a nice smart suit - it is pouring with rain and windy - everyone else rugged up in big coats.

Click Simple has got it wrong, Councillors get a very good attendance allowance usually more than the average person receives in wages, but to answer your question I would love to see a Prime Minister living as a normal person, but that is a pipe dream. They wouldn't take the job if it wasn't for the big fat salary.

Although many of the past Prime Ministers state they are from working class backgrounds they always end up very rich in retirement!

There is one MP, although not a minister, that actually gives some of his salary back and is always in parliament. His name is Dennis Skinner and he spends more time on the benches than any other MP.

Are aware how much the Prime Minister gets paid?

In relation to others who run large companies then the PM gets next to nothing in salary......£158,658.

Bet not many CEO's are on this amount each year!

Local councillors only get expenses and a small attendance allowance.

There is NO REASON why MP's should be any different.

High money attracts the incompetant greedy.
Low money attracts the dedicated and able.
