Here's the story. I met my fiance (Moroccan) a year ago, and visited him there for 6 weeks this summer. I really enjoyed being there, and am considering moving. One of my major conserns is my 2 yr old daughter. She is a little blonde, blue eyed, cutie....and I'm wondering if moving to Morocco with her should even be considered an option?? I have heard all of the stories, and I guess now I'm just wondering how much of it is true. Thanks for any help!!

Thank you for the replies. And as for his family.....I met and stayed with them the whole time I was in Morocco & they welcomed me right in to the family and can't wait for us to get married, and were disappointed that my daughter was unable to come with me. Another question I had I guess would be for the American's that have married Moroccan's and are now living & working in Morocco. From what I understand, a Bachelor's degree is required to get a work visa in Morocco. Does anyone know if it's required for TEFL teacher's if they become residents (through marriage), and how does becoming a Moroccan resident affect US citizenship??? Thanks again!!

Well the 3rd poster made some assumptions about things you didn't even mention. To that poster you should be aware that it is quite possible she met him with his family. For that matter her family could of been with.

As Fez stated there are blond hair, blue eyed children that are Moroccan. I wouldn't forsee this as an issue in anyway.

edit: It isn't necessary for you to have a bachelors degree to work here or get a work visa, it just depends on the job and the company assisting you in getting the work visa. I know many people working in American Language Centers who do not have an education past highschool. Working in the tourist industry can also be done without a bachelors.
If you are married to a Moroccan you can obtain residency through that alone. It has not effect on your US citizenship.

There are blond hair blue eyed Moroccans, plus, everyone is going to say their kid is a cutie. ;)

When she gets older she will get more attention because she looks somewhat exotic just like people here in the US think some people from abroad look exotic, although it is to a lesser extent now that we are such a mixed society. Women will want her to marry their sons so that their kids turn out whiter and maybe have blue eyes because although you find it there it is not that common.

There are plenty of American children there already too. Morocco is much safer than the US too no matter what is going on there now. The likelyhood of something happening to her here in the US is greater and she probably looks quite common here. (Don't take that the wrong way!!!!)

I'd be concerned what her father is going to say depending on custody...

edit: Sarah is right it has no affect on your citizenship. As an American citizen you still have to pay American taxes even if you work outside the country. Yeah, I know, it stinks and a lot of people get away with it but it's the law. Some schools are trying more and more to get people with degrees to teach tesol.

If you're asking about the stories you heard than you have to be more clear about what you are concerned about? Lots of american children live in Morocco. They have many american schools that even go by american calendars and stuff. If you are asking will she fit in. Of course and maybe. It depends. Try to be more clear.

Forget the guy, trust me. In Moroccan culture for him to meet with you when not even married is haraam and the reason he may be seeking a foreign woman is either he wants to leave morocco or Moroccan women consider him dirty. He really shamed his family by seeing you.
