Yes there is a phone jack and a whole list of "Manafacturers" to choose from plus other stuff after you pick a specific Manafacturer. So I would naturally pick the IBM one?? Then I have to choose from another list of things plus something about ports???

Look in the back of your computer for phone jack if you have one then you have a modem. If it's to big for a phone plug then that's for networking. You can call tec. support for your Internet they can walk you through a setup. It's fairly simple.

Is it running windows XP? Does it have what appears to be a rj11 phone jack in the back?

If running windows XP to - start - control panel - system properties - hardware - device manager in the list of stuff is the word modem listed with a plus sign next to it? Click the + sign it will show what modem is there if any. If none, then you either don't have a modem or you don't have the driver loaded for the modem.

If you think there is a modem in the system, I'd open the case and look at the modem to determine which modem it is (manufacturer/model number etc. should be on the card itself). Then install that driver from your list.

Does the emachine have a community connection? Do you have an desirable cord cable to connect it to the router? that's all you opt for DO. The router is likewise a HUB that's the way you linked a number of units to it. All you opt for do is connect yet another gadget merely such as you probably did including your computing gadget and xbox. Then, open up the help in XP and look for connecting to the community. WHat you call a router is fairly 3 units in a million field, the modem (DSL or cable), a hub for connection of particularly some units and a router which acts like a site visitors cop on the hub directing site visitors in and out the fairly some ports on the hub. in case you have not have been given diverse ports, then you definately opt for a hub so which you will connect diverse units to the modem, and you have not have been given a router precisely, yet probably merely a firewall. A router does not probably DO something important in a house community for the reason which you merely have one way in and out by ability of the modem channel on your ISP, like a one song substantial line on a railroad in a small city. The router merely controls what happens interior the small city, so i think of you will discover a router fairly does not something for the throughput in the process the modem, and easily enables between machines on your element of the modem. WHY could you prefer to bypass instantaneous? instantaneous is alike a large party line, the greater on the relationship, the slower each and every person is going. Hardwire is a lot greater desirable at throughput than instantaneous any day of the week.

If the computer does not have a modem, simply purchase one and install it. They connect via a PCI slot.

You gonna to have a modem, if not you won't be able to get to Internet. Go to buy one, it's pretty cheap. If not, you can subscribe DSL/cable broadband access, dial up can just be too slow.

Hope helps..
