When do you think is the best time to tell all the family your pregnant?

We have told our parents and I have told my boss, but our main concern is telling my brother-in-law and his wife because they have only just had their daughter and we don't know how they will take it?

I am sure they will both be happy but I have this awful feeling that my sister-in-law will be slightly pee'd off (but not show it) because they won't get all the attention anymore.

I am only 5 weeks so its still early days but we are very close to them and its hard not telling.

Oh, and we are going there tonight for a takeout and we always open a bottle of wine so I think that will be a bit of a give away and the fact I keep running to the loo!

Why would they not be happy for you? Are they that jealous that they want all the baby attention for themselves? They should be happy that their daughter will have a relative that's only a little younger. If they are that selfish that they can't be happy about YOUR new baby then why even consider their feelings?

Since it's the week before, I'd say Thanksgiving would be a wonderful day to break the joyful news, if you are all together that day. That is, if you can hold on to the news that long! That gives them a little more time to bask in the limelight of a new baby, and yet another blessing to be "thankful" for. It is a really good thing that their baby will have another relative his/her age to play with, too!! However, only you know the right timing with your family; everybody is different. Plus, there is also the question of how far into your pregnancy one announces the exciting news - which I believe is 8-10 weeks. Good luck :)

You shouldn't be afraid to tell your family. If they really love you they will be glad. Just plan a nice dinner or lunch out. Breakout the bottles of Champaign (of course you will be drinking something else) and anounce the big news. They will be sooooooooo happy for you guys and the fact that you have moved that further step in your relationship. By the way congrats!!! If ur sister in law has a problem with u getting attention then u shouldn't even have to tell her your business. i would (cuz theyer family)

Why do you think they wont take it well? I would be very hhappy if I found out my brother in law or my own sister was pregnant right after I give birth. I would love for my little girl to have a cousin the same age.

Give them a shot and keep an open mind.

a lot of people wait until they are 12 weeks along..
I don't know your family, but I would think that your brother-in-law and his wife would be excited to hear about another child in the family that is going to be around the same age as theirs... Then, at family get-togethers, the kids would have fun playing together... ;)
You know your family, though... so a lot of people use the 12 week mark as the time to tell everyone.. good luck! ;)

Why would they be anything other than happy for you both?

It's great news, tell them straight away.

Edit; I reckon they'd be hurt to know you'd kept it from them, especially if others know. Also you run the risk of someone dropping you in it.

Tell them tonight at dinner, they'll be really pleased.

As long as its not your brother-in-laws lol. They will probably be happy for you both. Just announce it sooner rather than later. It's better to tell them than them to find out from someone-else.

Result! You can have her hand me downs. Tell them tonight - unless they're totally stupid they'll suss you anyway. And if they're good people they'll be happy for you. Congrats!
