Don't get me wrong, I'm a Yankee fan and Jete is my fav player, but he seems to be beyond all critisism. I mean, Yanks got eliminated in ALDS, everybody piles on ARod who had just the 1HR and poor avg but the Captain wasn't exactly clutch either. This year at least.
And Jeter is making 20mil a year for the end of his contract, his numbers don't justify that. Leadership and intangibles mean a lot, but 20 mil? He has never won a batting title(even A Rod has one), is not a HR, RBI guy, and is begining to lose his speed on the bases and in the field.

You have heard that old saying, "all things being equal" , well I am here to tell you that "all things are never equal" and that includes the way some fans look at A-Rod and Jeter.

I agree with koreaguy. Jeter gets off easily because he is the New York darling who can do no wrong, despite batting .176 and hitting into 3 crucial DPs this postseason. Even though A-Rod actually has better postseason stats, people are blind to the facts and driven by emotion. The argument is that Jeter has been on winning WS teams and A-Rod has not. What they fail to consider is that it is a TEAM effort and, if the Yankee pitching was worth a damn and the rest of the players had hit better, A-Rod would have a ring too. People chose to ignore all of A-Rod's walk off HRs this year and the fact that he carried them on his back all year. It reminds me of what Roger Maris said in 1961 when the fans booed him and cheered Mantle, "Why can't they have room in their hearts for both of us?"

It is how you act on the field as well as off the field. Jeter has a much better image so fans forgive easier. A-Rod acts like a jerk and he will get battered by the fans. Opting out didn't help his image. Do you think the average fan feels he wasn't a pig because $25 million isn't enough? If you worked as an executive for a company and made $200,000./year, you would have to work 125 years to equal just year of A-Rod's earnings!!!!

Jeter is the heart and soul of the Yankees. He plays to the level of his contract, has made countless clutch plays (anyone remember the flip vs the A's) and never is a source of controversy. He is the poster child for the entire team. You cannot sum up his contributions in stats. I mean look at Posada, he will decline as the years start to get to him but I would not trade his winning abilities anymore than I would trade Jeter's.

I honestly don't know. Jeter's a Hall of Fame player, but he's more Joe Morgan or Roberto Alomar (when he was GOOD, mind you) than Babe Ruth. More like a "current great" than an all time great.
And I think he's overrated in the postseason too. Look at his postseason numbers:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/jeterde01.shtml
Overall for his career, he's good but not amazing. Great numbers in the Division series, pretty good in the World Series, but in the LCS- well a .262 batting average with a .744 OPS is not what you'd expect for someone with such a reputation for being a great postseason hitter. Out of the 25 postseason series he's been in, I count 9 that were out and out bad. Just that the Yankees won six of them (six of the first seven, in fact) that no one cared. True, he's had quite a few great postseason series too, but I would think the bad ones would drag down his overall performance.
One other thing that's surprising is that he's struck out 33 times in 32 World Series games (129 at bats), which is fine if you're Ryan Howard, but unacceptable for someone who is not known as free swinging slugger (only 3 home runs in those 32 games) and IS known as a big time post season producer.

My opinion is that Jeter has a more honest personality & is more approachable as a person & has a likeable attitude. A-Rod, who I am also a big fan seems to be unapproachable & more distant from the fans. These are only my opinions though but I am a fan of both players. Jeter has also proven himself in a play-off & World Series.

Jeter is a good hitter, average fielder and has the media in his hip pocket. He has had fans thrown out of Yankee Stadium for getting on his case when he was in the on deck circle. He is not the pretty boy everyone thinks he is. His skeletons and and more will come out of the closet. The tax cheat is the tip of the iceberg.

Well let's not also forget he hit .176 in the postseason this year! (3 for 17) Even A-Rod hit better with a .267 average and A-Rod is the one that gets blamed for everything. I also believe his fielding is getting sloppier. I think hes wearing down. But he is still great for the Yankees in either way

Well the main reason, is that Jeter has won the World Series, A-ROD hasn't. Also people believe Jeter does everything he can, diving into stands and all, and he does. But so does
A-ROD
