I want high speed because I want to do medical transcription from my home. I need to know if this means I need another separate line just for high speed access.

Are you talking about DSL or Cable, but either way, no to a second line, same line same phone.

There a two types of broadband available at this time. One comes in over your TV cable and the other comes in through your existing phone line. Cable connects to a modem and ten to your system. The other (DSL) connects to a standard phone line through a DSL modem. It is supplied with some filters that you connect between your existing phones and the wall to filter out the internet so that you don't hear it in your phones. With DSL you computer and your phone will work at the same time, and you will probably not need to do any extra wiring.

DSL uses your existing phone line but on a different frequency.
Filters are placed at every phone jack to stop interference.
One phone line can support DSL *AND* phone at the same time.

Cable is just that - cable(cable TV company's HSI offering over coax) and also uses a different frequency(frequencies) so no interference with TV.

No of course not,not at all,You have the choice between cable internet and DSL (Digital subscriber line) and with cable obviously it doesn't interfere with the phone line and with dsl they install it with filters for the other phone jacks in your home so you can still be able to talk on the phone

nope, not at all. Cable internet requires no phone line. DSL works off your existing phone, but you can take and give calls while the computer is on.

Good luck on your job!

If you are doing DSL it will come over your phone line.

If it is cable it will come over coax.

In neither event will you need a separate line.
