i do have pain medication. i have not taken any of it yet because i have a super high tolerance for pain. i have also been sleeping in a recliner all week. my grandpa has one of those catillac of all recliners with the remote and all those nice bonus features. but that is really uncomfortable for me and it makes my back hurt in the morning.
thank you all for the great answers. i'll try the ones that i haven't tried over the next few nights!

I sat upright in bed.

First, I slightly leaned into the corner, packing the bedding about me to keep me upright (You can try an inclined wedge, but I had difficulties)

Second, I wrapped a towel about my neck to keep my head up (You can get a travel pillow that till do the same and is far more comfortable)

Third, I immobilized myself (especially that arm on the side of the broken collarbone) to prevent movement (I tried to swat a dream fly from my face and used that arm to hit it. Talk about pain).

Fourth, take that pain medication, especially at night, for it will help you to sleep and you can get some degree of slumber.

Broken Collarbone Sleeping

2016-11-11 04:20:30 · answer #3 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

When I broke my collar bone I had to sleep in a chair for the first few nights. I usually sleep on my side but that was out of the question because it puts pressure on the shoulders. I ended up sleeping on my back but everytime I moved it was painful and it woke me up.

As long as you don't go crazy with them, some pain killers should help, but even with them its a painful injury and it will make sleeping more difficult. Good luck.

sometimes a semi-fowlers position will do. Becuase if your chest hurts when lying down, there is an altered comfort that you've been experiencing. Try to elevate the head of bed around 45 degrees.
Does your doctor prescribed an pain reliever? If you can't sleep well, sometimes doctors prescribed a sedatives for you to be able to sleep and also sleep contributes to alleviate pain temporarily. Consult your ortho-surgeon for further assessment and evaluation

Hope it helps

I have what they call a broken displaced clavicle (a bar with 7 screws to rebuild). I ve been piling up the pillows to sleep supporting my whole elevated torso as to not force up from horizontal. Just on my back, no side to side movement. Seems to have worked great so far. You shouldn t have any heat or inflammatory medicine for this position. Listen to your body. If it hurts, it s not good. If you can t feel it, it s probably not good either.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Didn't the doctor give you any pain medication. You may need something to help you sleep. You could also try over the counter sleep medicine, but usually Ambien is the only thing that will really work.

Try a recliner make to where you want it to go or if you don't have a recliner then get a bunch of pillows and put them where youd usually put your pillows in your bed those two should work
