The one in the paper never fits at all what goes on in my day. When I read the traits, they don't fit me either. The ones about being perfectionist, mountains out of molehills, introverted, etc. I am laid back, mostly outgoing, not too much gets me upset, not really a perfectionist. I am analytical though, so that part fits, and I do love beauty and beauttiful things.
I am just trying to figure out why mine is so far off the mark?
I was born Sept 11, 1962 2:14 PM - anyone have any ideas?

The Sun in Virgo is just one small slice in the whole pie. That you love beauty and beautiful things probably means that your Mercury is in Libra (Mercury is usually one before, the same or one after the Sun.) Your ascendent which indicates your personality is most likely not a Virgo. If you are interested in all the factors that determine your life's blueprint, the natal chart is what you want. You can get the natal chart by plugging in three pieces of information (date, place & time of birth) into an astrology software program or take to a professional astrologer or New Age store. You will be amazed at what you learn about yourself, and I am sure you will better understand why you don't feel like a Virgo. Happy Discoveries!

Mary,
Don't put any stock in those newspaper horoscopes. The only ones that ever had a trace of accuracy were those written by the late great Sydney Omar...all the rest are best left to be considered entertainment only.
As for your personality traits, that can be best rationalized by the fact that you---undoubtedly---have an ascending sign that is VERY different from Virgo, and I'm guessing that yours might be Pisces. Your ascendant is determined by the time of day you were born. If you have this information, go to ivillage.com for an accurate reading; they'll give you your moon sign as well, and that should help to shed some light! :)

It isn't possible to construct an accurate chart without knowing your birth *place* as well as date and time.
I did a little mini-chart for you with the place left at Greenwhich, so unless you were born there (doubtful!), it won't be completely accurate, but it *should* give you an idea of the added complexity a complete chart will give to the simple "Sun Sign" readings:
Ascendant: 13Sag26'23"
Sun: 18Vir31'17"
Moon: 14Aqu46'34"
Mercury: 15Lib16'13"
Venus: 04Sco23'00"
Mars: 12Can42'04"
Jupiter: 06Pis15'42"R
Saturn: 05Aqu23'26"R
Uranus: 02Vir01'47"
Neptune: 11Sco22'49"
Pluto: 10Vir10'23"
North Node: 08Leo23'10"R
South Node: 08Aqu23'10"R
Your Sun Sign is only a very small part of the astrological picture. ;-)

Nothing's perfect about these horoscopes; don't trust them so much. I'm a virgo too, and I'm pretty laid-back, and I'm neither extrovertive or introvertive. I'm also a pretty big dreamer. Down to earth? Not in this lifetime, I'm not. ^_- Don't worry about it so much.

Horoscopes are never accurate. They are really made up reading of a person based on their birthday... Haven't you met any other Virgos? They're probably not exactly like you...

What astrology does best is stereotype, label, and pigeon-hole based on date of birth, with no evidence to back it up. Since no one has control of when they were born, this makes it a form of bigotry.
Most people are offended to bigotry when it's has to do with race, sex, nationality, and others. But there is nothing wrong with astrology's. Replace a sign with a nationality and it becomes more obvious.
Why not take control of your own life instead of letting a ancient, irrational, unproven, and bigoted concept do it for you?

horoscopes are vague and open to interpretation...thats why somedays they seem "right on" and other days not...perhaps the horoscope is for some other virgo...or perhaps they are just hooey

this is because your rising sign is sagittarius & this makes you outgoing & freedom-loving & you have moon is aquarius & this makes you a little nervous & beauty loving.

It doesn't fit because it "make believe" . Do you understand fantasy versus reality.
