Hi, I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with my second child, my son is now 7 he was delivered by c-section as I was induced and he got distressed. I am now trying for a virginal birth (VBAC) but yesterday my BP was 140/108 and had trace of protein in urine (its been confirmed I have white coat syndrome)!....midwife wanted to send me in to hospital but i pleaded with her not to so she sent me for a pre-eclampsia blood test which i have heard nothing back and she said no news will be good news. I am having BP checked again tommorow but im scared I will just be hearled in for another c-section, has anyone else been in my situation? if so what was the outcome, did you get the chance to try for a vaginal birth? I have been told I may beable to have a sweep to maybe try and break my waters but i was examined last Tuesday and the doc said I wasnt ready yet! any tips on how to get things going? thanks in advance xx

A trace of protein is no big deal - can sometimes just be caused by some of the gunk that comes out of you. It doesn't mean you have diabetes either! If you've not headr anything then perhaps you're OK.

You asked how to get things going - well the only ones supposed to work are sex and fresh pineapple but nothing will start it unless you're ready to go into labour.

As already said it depends on individual doctors / midwives whether they induce with pre-e or go straight to section. If you're feeling really brave you can tell them that they're not allowed to perform a section without your consent and you'd rather wait and see how things go - perhaps with daily monitoring of the baby to check it's not in danger.

Women who haven't had a section can't appreciate how much you can want a vaginal birth.

There's no reason high blood pressure should keep you from trying for a vaginal birth.

As far as induction goes, the doctor probably just meant that your cervix is not ripened yet, or that you have not dilated much. That can be helped along with agents like Cervadil.

You've still got a great shot at a successful VBAC so don't give up hope!

Even if you have preeclampsia, they can still let you deliver vaginally unless you have a severe case of it.

We induce women with preeclampsia all the time. Sometimes it takes a day or two of cervical ripening first if your cervix is unfavorable for induction, but it's totally possible. I do not feel that since you are doing a TOLAC (trial of labor after cesarean - it isn't a VBAC until you're successfully delivered the baby vaginally) that it would make much difference.

Good luck to you!

unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to move things along naturally. even if you had preeclampsia, it would not necessarily mean that you just get a c/s, some doctors would induce you but that is very very dependant on the doctor, hospital and what kind of services are available. if your cervix is rock hard and closed, it may be hard to get an induction. many wont induce a vbac at all, others will, it is going to depend on your doctor and not anyones opinion here on yahoo.

I had pre-e and ended up with an emergency c-sec as baby stopped growing. I was told that I could be induced and try natural if i got to 35 weeks. It all depends on your drs and midwives etc. Good Luck. Don't be afraid to tell them what you want as they should be listening as well.

unfortunately if you have protein in the urine that is from Gestational Diabetes and if you have preeclampsia on top of that they will take the baby via c-section to keep you and baby safe... im 26 weeks with #2 and scared to death of having a c-section because with my 1st i had a vaginal delivery and the baby was near 10lbs so this time they think im going to have a c-section and i didnt take well to the epidural last time... hope everything goes well for you... good luck
