Over the past month or so, my 97 toyota avalon hasn't started right away three times. it would start evantually but yesterday it wouldnt start for four or five times after turning the ignition. It makes no noise at all when this happens, i just get nothing at all when i turn the key. Is it the battery? I havent replaced it in the 4 years that i've owned it, is there an easy way to figure this out? the car has about 82k miles. thanks....

it runs fine once started, never cuts off or anything. It has been a while (2-3 years) since i've done anything aside the standard oil change.

i will bet that when you turn the key you hear one click

its coming from the starter
you need new starter contacts
most people chainge the whole starter the contacts cost $10 or less the starter $100 to $200 there easy to install

if it was the battery you would need a jump to start the altenator works only when its running your not complaning about that

Battery & Alternator; If Battery is 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 Years Old or looks Swollen on the Sides replace it! With the Engine Not Running the Battery should show 11.5v to 12.5v, Engine it should show 12.8v to 13.6v showing you that the Alternator is working properly! NOTE; "Load Test" of the Battery (15 Seconds) will show you if the Battery will Take or Hold a Charge.

Well if it's not turning over (making any noise) then it's most likely an electrical problem,i.e. the battery,or the alternator but i would need to know more information before i could properly diagnose this problem and give you a proper answer.Such as hows does it run once it's started?does it ever cut off on you while your driving? Whens the last time you did a tune up?

seems like the fuel pump could be screwed it could also be that your arent getting any compression so that could be worn piston rings if it is not making any sound that oculd be your solenoid starter motor
