Depends on what you want to learn. DO you want to know how operating systems work, or programming, maybe web design, databases, servers or virus's and spyware?

The easiest is to take some classes, they build on each other. If that is not an option, start with how computers communicate with us (us as in humans ;-), how they are used in business, how web pages and scripting works or interfaces with databases. Those books in the beginning should talk a little bit about binary. Then go on to operating systems..
Then, read about virus's and spyware...

But again, classes might be a better option. They have degrees and certificates in Information Technology, Computer repair, and Computer Science.

Your local community college is a great place to start. Try starting with a computer science coarse. You can then branch out into any field (networking, It), etc.
