I want to wire up a Push Button start rather than inserting a Key to start my car (I'm a geek - so dont ask why). I have a remote for my car to lock my doors and unlock them. I'm not really worried about someone breaking into my car. I have a 1997 Nissan Sentra GXE and wanted to purchase THREE switches, two regular flip switches and one Monetary switches to start my car but I'm not too geeky to figure it out on my own where to wire everything up at however If told, I can figure it out. I'll have the three switches, the first two switches will be two power on my accessories while the third switch will be used to Turn my Car on. Turning off the two switches will turn the car off.

I'll try finding a Schematic for my car and seeing If i can wire it up on my own. I'm tech savy, but need a lil help just to get going. Everyone helped me out, Thanks!

P.S. Yeah i'll have to figure out how to take the ignition switch out and make sure the Steering Wheel Lock is out so the wheel doesnt lock on me.

Do what I did when the ignition switch in my Honda went out, and I am too cheap to buy a replacement - was $85 way back then.

On the back side of the ignition switch there is a connector, the Honda Civic had six wires running into it. Using a multimeter, then jumping some (make sure the car is parked with the parking brakes on, and transmission in nuetral if a manual, and park if an automatic), you will be able to figure out which is which, there is at least:

* ground
* 12V
* to start
* to ignition
* to accessories

Once you find 12V, jumper it to the others to find the start, acc and ignition circuits. For the start, the starter will crank, but engine will not start, ignition MAY light up the warning lights on the dash, acc will not light up the warning lights.

Note you still have to come up with a way to mechanically unlock the steering. With the Honda, I just kept the key for that.

Once you wire this up, you should use 14 guage wires, and switches rated for at least 20 Amps 12 VDC. The DC voltage rating is very important.

You need to apply power to the coil, but be careful, if you do this wrong you can start the car in gear and run someone over. If you are not really an electrician, or a real tech, you will probably alter your parking space/garage. The power to the coil is one wire and it is 12 VDC. You also need to send a momentary 12 volts to the starter solenoid, the accesories are simple, keep in mind, power loading, don't use too small a switch or you will torch your ride. If you would give me your address, I will be sure to stay out of the area for a while! Good luck, Be safe!

You have the right idea....only problem is if you car has the steering column lock...if so....you need to find a way to override that...or take it out.

Better yet...why don't you check with your car alarm store. They have the push button auto start on your key pad...starts your car while you are in the house so it will warm up before you go outside and get in.

Buy yourself a haynes or chiltons manual for your car. It has the wiring diagrams that will be needed to do what you want. Just put the ignition circuit on a seperate switch from the accessories>

You've already answered your question.
Locate the wiring to your ignition switch & with a test light check each wire on different key positions.
