Matthew 1:1-15,
16. And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
This is the genealogy of Christ through Merry! or through Joseph?

There are two genealogies, one in Matthew, one in Luke. They are quite different, except that both go through Joseph, who the Gospel assures us was not the father of Jesus! Matthew hedges its bets as you see.
