Have the transmission serviced if it hasn't been done recently. Some of the causes of the problem are a sticky valve, a sticking check ball or low fluid level. A fluid and filter change maybe all that is needed to fix it>

There's a seal inside the transmission that goes bad. After the car sits for a few hours, like over night the fluid drains away from it. When you first start off in the morning, it takes a while for the fluid to re-seal in that valve. You can try some trans-tune for a temporary fix. There other products that will also help. A fluid/filter change won't fix this problem. Take it to a transmission shop and they can give you an estimate of repair costs. They can also explain this a Little better that I can in this forum. Unfortunately, this problem will most likely require a complete rebuild because in order to get to your problem, the transmission will have to be disassembled. Depending on your car, you may be better off with a re manufactured transmission. Your problem will get worse soon, and ultimately your transmission will quit working, leaving you stranded.

I had this problem with my car a while back. It was some electric problem, cyz the transmission was okay. Just take all the fuses out for few minutes, disc the battery cable also.
After a few minutes, put it all back. If you have a any transmission fluid leak, that would also cause the car not to move, but some electric problem is my 1st guess.

This is commonly called morning sickness for transmissions. It happens because seals in the trans are getting hard, vs soft and flexible. It is an indicator that a major failure is coming up in the near future, colder climates make this worse. You can drive a car like this for a long time sometimes. I drove one for a few years, back in my really financially embarrassed times.

The seal in the front pump most liely. Our car has the same problem. Only occurs on cold mornings and not so much in warmer weather because the seal is softer in warm weather. We have fixed several of these over the years. Even happened on a 1969 truck.

Check tranny fluid, and if it's full wipe stick,re insirt to tranny, pull it back out and smell it.If it smells like cat urine it's fine, now if it smells like a burger that is burnt,i suggest Tranny filter, and new fluid.I'v had cars that did the same thing and ran for another 80,000 miles. If it makes a clink sound,it's the CV joints, worste senareo it could be the tranny, but i doubt it.Sorry about my spelling, bye :)

I agree with the first answer, check the fluid and if it look OK, it may be time for a fluid change and new filter.

Low on transmission fluid or you need a new transmission filter.
