If you've read or seen the play, you already know what the character does. Now all you have to think about is why he does it. How would the play be different without him? What would it be missing? How does he help you as a reader or audience member understand the story and the other characters? How is he different from the other characters in the play? For example, is he the only one who speaks directly to the audience? Is there anything different about the way he talks, the kind of language he uses, the knowledge he seems to have?

One tip: Read a good encyclopedia article about Greek tragedy. Pay special attention to what it says about the role of the character called the Chorus.
