How reliable are their grading services? Are they respected within the industry?

The oldest grading service is ANACS and they are great when it come too is the coin real especially colonial. They also have fair prices and you can submit things yourself. ICG is a new comer but going through their lists of grades have some real good ones. I don't like the idea of joining to submit coins. The top two PCGS & NGC got there by playing games with the coin dealers. The dealers support both of them and talk down the other 2. Now that there are more sites having coin auctions other than just ebay, this helps us little guys. I hope people will finally see that PCGS & NGC are taking advantage of them, both companies have a lot of conflicts of interest though they say they don't. I think ICG does a good job but I still buy the coin not the slab.

Here is one for you. I had a beautiful red proof 1887 Indian Head cent that I sent into PCGS for grading. It came back UNC Questionable Color. I was outraged. A 10 year old boy could have told that this was a proof. I then cracked it out and sent it to ICG. This time it came back Proof 64 Red which I thought was very accurate. I attempted to sell it on EBay for months going down to as low as a third of the market price but still no takers. I then spoke with a dealer who told me to crack it out and send it back to PCGS using the 55.00 express grading because the best graders are used for that process. I did this and this time the coin came back Proof 64 RB. No brown on the coin but at least it got a grade this time. The so called best graders in the world can't tell if a coin is a proof or not. I guess the 32.00 a coin graders still need help. I have the certification numbers of the coin from each submission if anyone is interested. After spending all my money on grading fees it kind of makes my coin almost worthless. This hobby is not what it used to be. Big business big money. Not really about the coins anymore.

They are legit, but I think they generally grade higher than the other grading services.
