It was a four star petrol tank. I mean it was an easy mistake. If your partner did it would you be kind to them.

Luckily for me it was sorted by the complete draining of the tank. It was quite an old car. Now with a new car i will not go near the petrol station, it is down to the boy(my long suffering husband)

I'm surprised this happened. In the US, diesel nozzles are made of a larger diameter and therefore will not fit in to the fill hole, inside the petrol cap, on gasoline fueled vehicles.

If it was a small amount (1/4 tank or less) It could have just been burned through. Things would have been a bit smokey and smelly, but it would have run it's course.

A full tank of diesel would have to be drained, which can be costly. This is probably why he was fuming.

One tip to avoid this:
Diesel is usually offered in just one grade. Petrol is normally offered in grades 87-93 octane, which can be selected by pressing buttons on the pump. If there is no grade selection READ the pump to make sure it's NOT diesel.

i would be somewhat upset . the fuel wont wreck the car but it does cost money to solve the problem and is a hassle.
often the nozzle wont fit in the gas tank hole but yours did so . life goes on don't worry about the small stuff . let him huff and puff he really cant blow the house down.
gas in the gas tank from now on OK
one more time i tell you the fuel will not wreck the engine . i know this for a fact . it will need a new fuel filter it wont run well or at all until the fuel is changed and that is about it.

No I would not be cross, but relieved that it was not me who had done it, as I can only imagine how upsetting it must be, to be the one who had done it in the first place. I know quite a few people who have done this and know how bad they felt about it. So why banish them even more. I would however take the mickey out of them for ever. Also would be a bit concerned about the costs this mistake can bring with it.

I'd be upset. Normally a diesel nozzle is much larger than a regular unleaded petrol nozzle and I'd have to question why a person having difficulty putting in the deisel didn't catch that.

you would be effective...drain or siphon the tank, fill with petrol, and don't positioned diesel in it anymore. Diesel often has extra oil in it which will develop it is resistance to detonation...it would very almost be like pouring a quart of oil on your gas tank. additionally...because of the fact that petrol is a solvent it is going to sparkling it for you. That being pronounced, an incredible can of gas Injector cleanser would be a impressive concept.

I do not have the holier-than-thou attitude, that too in hindsight! Frankly, if my wife made this easy mistake, she would not have an easy time with me, about this. To quite an extent, men are quite alike...especially when it comes to sharing of negative traits.

Women are better than men, and are indeed the fairer sex, in many important aspects of life. There are, however, some aspects in life, in which, men outshine women. The quality of scientific and engineering successes, which improve the quality of life is one domain, in which men definitely excel, but women are fast catching up...Will men someday be able to give birth to a child, surrogate or otherwise???????????

If someone put diesel in my car I think I would be quite cross. This week my son wrecked the engine of his dads car strangely enough he was OK about it despite the massive bill.

Putting diesel in a gasoline-powered car is no different from pumping in water. It ruins the engine. I would be pretty angry if anybody put diesel in my gasoline automobile, but i would certainly apologize for any outbursts.

I once called a tow truck to bring my car to the mechanic because it quit. Turns out it was out of gas! My husband was HOT! I'd be understanding!
