It could be either the position of the baby or heartburn. To try to get the baby to shift you can gently raise your arms above your head and take a deep breath. Then lower. Repeat a few times and see if that works. Or get on your hands and knees with your pelvis lower than your chest and rock slowly for a while.

If it's heartburn, an antacid should help.

I cant say I have had a sharp pain under my rib that lasted a month, but I can tell you this is my third pregnancy as well and EVERYTHING is different. I am 35 weeks and three days and he dropped 6 days ago which relieved all the upper pain and caused new ones. However in my book it says that if you try certain stretches to help the baby move it may ease your pain. My mother swears by getting on all fours (as if your going to mop the floor) and rock back and forth for a bit. After that you could try doing some light yoga stretches and even lunges to see if it is your lil one, maybe he/she has found them selfs a cubby up under ribs and its time to wedge them out. I had a pain on my left side that was persistent but it would come and go, it let up after a visit to the ER and findings of a kidney infection, so if yours is really bad and there are other symptoms do not wait to recheck it out, sometimes Dr over look things. But try the stretches and a nice long bath, use pillows to make you comfy and demand your husband to take care of you so you can rest.. Good luck..

I had this from two different sources. One you could be sore from constant kicking and pressure. Second it could be heartburn - not all heartburn has the burning slop comming up your throut. For me it was a really bad pain under my sternum and up into my ribs. Sometimes it was so painful I could barely lay still. You could try an antacid to be sure thats not the cause.
