I wish to put my website on the net. Please tell me if I need to install an FTP program. Also, is there a limit to the file size when downloading my files onto FTP for the web?

Depends on how you host your website. You bought my.domain.com which basically means a registrar will convert my.domain.com to an IP address; a DNS is responsible for this. If you use a host, the DNS is almost always provided. FTP is the file transfer protocol. Many web hosts use this as a way for you to upload your web pages; however, it is up to them if you don't host yourself. Each host will allow you to configure FTP differently, but they will have a bandwidth restriction.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) has two ends.
One your host will setup - (the FTP Server) this will be where your files will be UPLOADED to the webserver. The host will also setup a username and password so that you can access the server.

Two you need an FTP CLIENT - this is on your computer and allows you to easily connect to the FTP server.
WSFTP : http://www.wsftp.com/ is a very commonly used one.
Bulletproof FTP : http://www.bpftp.com/
is one of my favorites as it has "auto recovery" if during a transfer a disconect happens it just starts up where it left off without having to start over.

There is also a very good FREE CLIENT
http://filezilla-project.org/
get the client if you decide to use that.

On these programs you will have Your system screen in one "window" and the "server" on another. To move files you just click on a file from YOUR system and send it to the server. Or Click on a file on the server and bring it DOWN to your system. Easy to do easy to use.

The size of the file is limited only by how fast your connection is and how patient you are in transferring it! Usually web files are not that big. The other limit is how much space you have for your website - mostly depends on how much you pay for space!

You need to do that yourself. You can probably get one for a free trial period and upload your files. Once that expires, you can find another free one and do the same. Just do a google search for 'free ftp software'. Or, if you're willing to spend money, they're usually under $30.00.
Dreamweaver comes with it's own so I'm guessing other web tools might have one built right in it too. FrontPage might have its own too.

The host determines the file size limit for the files you upload to their server.
